A question we get asked regularly is "Should I have a pad under my rug?" In general, yes you should have a pad under your rug. However, there are a lot of options! Let's dive into the world of rug pad, or "underlay", and help you decide what is right for you and your rugs! When do you need a rug pad? Whenever your rug, be it tufted, hand knotted, flat woven, or machine made, is going on a hard surface - you should use a pad. There is a BIG safety concern with the rug sliding around on a hard surface. Also, the rug will last much longer if it is not being wrinkled up and worn out from sliding around on the floor. Lastly, there is a cushion provided by the pad when heavy furniture is placed on the rug, which can stress backing fibers and cause damage. Should you use a rug pad when the rug is going over carpet? Absolutely! There are rug made specifically for that application and they keep the rug from moving around and becoming wrinkled. Wrinkles = trip hazards and premature wear! So... which rug pad? Not all rug pads are created equal. That waffle foam stuff you buy at any home store...? DO NOT USE! That will cause more damage than good and we highly recommend staying away from it. If that pad is used on concrete, stone, or hardwood floors, it will eventually bond to the floor and cause a headache of refinishing your fine flooring surface. I repeat: DO NOT USE. So now that we got that covered, what are some professional grade options for you? We carry and highly recommend the products made [...]

Your rugs are some of your most prized possessions! In order to keep them looking and feeling the best they can be, here are a few rug care tips from the Utah rug cleaning experts at Cleanville! We will cover: Dry soil removal Spot removal Wearing evenly Preventing moth and beetle damage Avoiding UV fading Rugs and pets How to remove dry soils and everyday contaminants: The most important part of rug care (and carpet care) is dry soil removal on a consistent basis. This can be done many ways! The most popular method is vacuuming, which helps remove sand, soil, pet hair, and air pollutants. We recommend a vacuum that has a gentle brush and is adjusted to the proper height. Aggressive brushes will prematurely wear your rug fiber and cause damage. For shaggy rugs, use a vacuum that you can turn the beater bar off, or a suction only canister type vacuum. Vacuum as often as needed according to your foot traffic and environment. Smaller rugs should be shaken out monthly if possible. Removing spots: Spots can be an eyesore on an otherwise perfect rug! Depending on what the source is, here are a few simple techniques you can try for removing a spot. First, remove excess of whatever caused the spot. This can be done with a spatula, or a vacuum if it is dry. If it is a liquid, it is best to start removing it as soon as it happens! Use a towel or spot extraction machine if you have one. Absorb everything you can with the clean towel and then assess the spot. If there is color left behind from the contaminant, you can try wetting another clean towel [...]
A question we get asked ALL the time is "How often should I clean my carpet?" Lucky for you guys, today I am going to discuss what the best answer is to that question! First of all, the short answer is... It depends! What does that mean? Well, it depends on where you live, how many people live in your house, how many pets you have, how often you have guests, whether or not everyone takes their shoes off, if you eat on your carpet, how often you vacuum, and what kind of carpet you have - and more! The answers to those questions determine how often you should clean your carpets because all of those factors contribute to adding more dirt and soiling to your carpet. The number of people in the home greatly increases the amount of soiling because each person tracks in dirt and sheds millions of skin cells per day! The same goes for having guests over, and especially when they do not remove their shoes. Besides people, pets are one of the largest contributors to adding soiling to your carpets. They do not wipe their feet when they come in from the muddy outdoors, they drool, they shed, they rub their oily hair all over the carpet, and can sometimes have accidents on the carpets. In summary, the more people or pets you have in your home, the more often you need to vacuum and have your carpets professionally cleaned. Now that we discussed the cause of the soiling, we can discuss how to remove it and how often. A common misconception about carpet cleaning is that it makes your carpet resoil faster, or causes it to wear out faster. [...]

Leather furniture can be a great addition to any room... until it becomes neglected, dried up, and in need of some TLC! As you may already may know, Cleanville Carpet, Rug, & Stone Care is Salt Lake City and the surrounding area's highest rated upholstery cleaning service provider. We professionally clean all types of fabric and this includes leather as well. Leather upholstery needs to be maintained, just like carpet, tile & grout, and other household surfaces. Our friendly trained technicians will identify what type of leather you have, give you options for cleaning, conditioning, and protecting - then get to work! The most common type of leather is called a "protected" leather. This is the shiny type that is designed to be very durable when maintained properly. Our leather cleaning kits are stocked with a mild leather cleaning solution that works really well on this type of leather. (Please note that some stains on leather are nearly impossible to completely remove, but we will do our very best to improve or remove them.) After the leather is cleaned, we can follow that with a leather conditioner that revitalizes and softens the leather, and finish with a leather protectant. There is also a type of leather called NuBuck or suede. Although this kind of leather should generally not be wet-cleaned, we have special cleaning cloths that are designed to clean the rough finish of NuBuck by absorbing and agitating the fiber. The cloths are able to remove light soiling and food spills quite well, and the look and feel of the leather is much improved! Last, but not least... Cleanville can clean and protect your automobile leather interiors too! Our fine leather care products and [...]

You have probably heard the terms Scotch Guard, Stain Guard, Protector, or MicroSeal before... but what exactly do these products do? First of all; not all carpets and rugs are created equal! There are several different fiber types that rugs and carpets are constructed with, and they all behave differently when it comes to stain resistance and cleaning. To put it simply, most synthetic carpet (especially nylon) comes with a form of stain guard from the mill it is produced in. That protector is applied to the fibers and baked on. However, after 2-4 years of traffic wear and cleaning, etc, the stain guard coating wears off and does not offer the same protection as when it was new. Wool and other natural fibers, on the other hand, generally do not come with any sort of added protection! That means you have a textile, whether it is carpet, upholstery, or a rug that has no protection against spills, spots, food, or pets! This is where Cleanville comes in to protect your investments! We offer fiber stain guard application on just about any type of textile you have - wall to wall carpet, oriental & area rugs, upholstery, and more. We have several different stain guard products available to use, depending on the fiber it is going on. One MAJOR benefit of the product we use is that it contains what is called acid-dye blockers. Why do you need acid-dye blockers? Well, almost every substance that is going to permanently stain your textiles is acidic! Drinks, pet urine, vomit, and many other harmful substances are acids that easily and permanently dye your vulnerable fibers. The acid-dye blockers in the protector we use fill empty dye sites [...]
