Carpet, Rug, and Upholstery Stain Guard Protector in Salt Lake City

You have probably heard the terms Scotch Guard, Stain Guard, Protector, or MicroSeal before... but what exactly do these products do? First of all; not all carpets and rugs are created equal! There are several different fiber types that rugs and carpets are constructed with, and they all behave differently when it comes to stain resistance and cleaning. To put it simply, most synthetic carpet (especially nylon) comes with a form of stain guard from the mill it is produced in. That protector is applied to the fibers and baked on. However, after 2-4 years of traffic wear and cleaning, etc, the stain guard coating wears off and does not offer the same protection as when it was new. Wool and other natural fibers, on the other hand, generally do not come with any sort of added protection! That means you have a textile, whether it is carpet, upholstery, or a rug that has no protection against spills, spots, food, or pets! This is where Cleanville comes in to protect your investments! We offer fiber stain guard application on just about any type of textile you have - wall to wall carpet, oriental & area rugs, upholstery, and more. We have several different stain guard products available to use, depending on the fiber it is going on. One MAJOR benefit of the product we use is that it contains what is called acid-dye blockers. Why do you need acid-dye blockers? Well, almost every substance that is going to permanently stain your textiles is acidic! Drinks, pet urine, vomit, and many other harmful substances are acids that easily and permanently dye your vulnerable fibers. The acid-dye blockers in the protector we use fill empty dye sites [...]

How to Care for Your Rugs

Your rugs are some of your most prized possessions! In order to keep them looking and feeling the best they can be, here are a few rug care tips from the Utah rug cleaning experts at Cleanville! We will cover: Dry soil removal Spot removal Wearing evenly Preventing moth and beetle damage Avoiding UV fading Rugs and pets How to remove dry soils and everyday contaminants: The most important part of rug care (and carpet care) is dry soil removal on a consistent basis. This can be done many ways! The most popular method is vacuuming, which helps remove sand, soil, pet hair, and air pollutants. We recommend a vacuum that has a gentle brush and is adjusted to the proper height. Aggressive brushes will prematurely wear your rug fiber and cause damage. For shaggy rugs, use a vacuum that you can turn the beater bar off, or a suction only canister type vacuum. Vacuum as often as needed according to your foot traffic and environment. Smaller rugs should be shaken out monthly if possible. Removing spots: Spots can be an eyesore on an otherwise perfect rug! Depending on what the source is, here are a few simple techniques you can try for removing a spot. First, remove excess of whatever caused the spot. This can be done with a spatula, or a vacuum if it is dry. If it is a liquid, it is best to start removing it as soon as it happens! Use a towel or spot extraction machine if you have one. Absorb everything you can with the clean towel and then assess the spot. If there is color left behind from the contaminant, you can try wetting another clean towel [...]

Leather Cleaning, Conditioning, & Protecting in Salt Lake City,Park City, & More!

Leather furniture can be a great addition to any room... until it becomes neglected, dried up, and in need of some TLC! As you may already may know, Cleanville Carpet, Rug, & Stone Care is Salt Lake City and the surrounding area's highest rated upholstery cleaning service provider. We professionally clean all types of fabric and this includes leather as well. Leather upholstery needs to be maintained, just like carpet, tile & grout, and other household surfaces. Our friendly trained technicians will identify what type of leather you have, give you options for cleaning, conditioning, and protecting - then get to work! The most common type of leather is called a "protected" leather. This is the shiny type that is designed to be very durable when maintained properly. Our leather cleaning kits are stocked with a mild leather cleaning solution that works really well on this type of leather. (Please note that some stains on leather are nearly impossible to completely remove, but we will do our very best to improve or remove them.) After the leather is cleaned, we can follow that with a leather conditioner that revitalizes and softens the leather, and finish with a leather protectant. There is also a type of leather called NuBuck or suede. Although this kind of leather should generally not be wet-cleaned, we have special cleaning cloths that are designed to clean the rough finish of NuBuck by absorbing and agitating the fiber. The cloths are able to remove light soiling and food spills quite well, and the look and feel of the leather is much improved! Last, but not least... Cleanville can clean and protect your automobile leather interiors too! Our fine leather care products and [...]

Tile and Grout Cleaning Tips

Tile is a great flooring option for areas in your home that see a lot of wear and tear, owing to it’s durability and water resistant nature. However, the grout between your tiles will start to look grimy fast if you don’t care for and clean it regularly. This is easy to do at home. Here are a few tips on how to keep your grout looking as good as your tile year round. 1. Use Warm Water for Regular Cleaning For everyday dirt and grime, all you’ll need is warm water and a stiff bristled brush. Slowly work out the grime from your grout by spraying warm water and moving the bristled brush in circles. Let the grout dry, and repeat any time your flooring looks like it needs a refresh.   2. For Tougher Stains, Bring in the Vinegar and Baking Soda If water just isn’t cutting it, add vinegar and baking soda to the mix. Start with a paste made from water and baking soda. Spread your paste on the grout and then spray it with vinegar. The whole thing should start to foam- leave this foam for a few minutes to let it work its magic. Once it has stopped foaming, rinse the whole thing with water and say goodbye to your tougher stains and grime!   3. Bring Out the Big Guns for Severe Stains For the dirtiest grout, turn to oxygen bleaches that you can find in the cleaning aisle at your local grocery store. Follow the directions carefully when using this powerful cleaning agent and make sure the room you’re working in is properly ventilated. Leave the solution on the grout for 15 minutes to let it do [...]

5 Things Happy Guys Do

Everybody wants to be happy, but one has to know that being happy is the fruit of our actions and self-love and that some activities are the cause of happiness while others come to those who are happy. Bearing that in mind, we’re going to go over just how happy people act, and if you’re overall a happy person you may identify with these actions. If you aren’t, well I’m sure you’ll start noticing some patterns on those who are, having these items in mind. Bonus: If you aren’t happy, then doing these actions may get you there sooner than expected! Happy People Don’t Hold Grudges! Those who are happy are always ready to forgive and let things go… this makes it so that they hold less negative feelings inside – and we all know these negative feelings can cause a lot of depression or unhappiness if left unattended; read more about depression treatment at DepressRX. Don’t let people who cross you get control over what you feel and just be superior, accepting that everybody makes mistakes. If that person crossed you on purpose, simply decide whether they are worth another chance or if they are best left avoided – just don’t keep them around while holding a grudge. Happy Guys are Positive and Kind: People who are kind and gentle are proven, scientifically, to be happier than others, and being selfless is a behavior that gets your body to produce a hormone known as serotonin. This hormone is responsible for making you happy, relaxed and positive. As a bonus, people will like you a lot more, and you’re bound to bond with people positively. Happy Guys don’t write posts like this: “I will tell [...]

Cleanville’s 10 Steps to a Clean Rug: Part 2

Welcome back to our two part series on cleaning and maintaining your rugs. If you have not read our first article in this series, Cleanville's 10 Steps to a Clean Rug: Part 1, make sure you check out that page first. Here are the last 5 steps involved in our 10 step rug washing process. 6: Drying - Speed drying your rug helps minimize the risk of colors bleeding and gets the rugs ready to be picked up faster! We use a combination of heat and high speed air flow to get the moisture back out of your rugs. 7: Fringe Cleaning - Rugs often have fringes that are made of cotton and require additional attention when cleaning. We use specialized fringe cleaning products and techniques to get your rug's fringes back to a beautiful white again. 8: Grooming - Rugs have a natural pile direction to them. We groom rugs when they are finished being cleaned to make sure the fibers are going the right direction and to help open the fibers for faster drying. 9: Fabric Protection - This is an optional, but HIGHLY recommended step in rug cleaning. Adding a protective application to the fibers helps makes the rugs more resistant to stains and soiling. It's a inexpensive way to get more life out of your investment! 10: Post Inspection and Delivery - This is where we go over the rugs with a fine tooth comb and make sure they are Cleanville clean! Your rugs do not leave our shop until we are completely satisfied with the results.  Articles with this disclaimer may not represent the beliefs or core values of Cleanville. The above is simply a summary taken from the industry's general community [...]
