7 Steps to a Clean Rug: Part 2

By May 21, 2016No Comments

Welcome back to our two part series on cleaning and maintaining your rugs. If you have not read our first article in this series, 7 Steps to a Clean Rug: Part 1, make sure you check out that page first. Here are the last 3 steps you need to know to properly clean your area rug at home.

5. Remove Excess Water

Before you lay your rug out to dry, you should get as much water out of the rug as possible. A rubber window squeegee is a great tool to use for this. Carefully squeeze the water out of your carpet, always pulling with the rug’s nap, never against it. Once you no longer see water being forced out, you are done.

6. Lay Flat to Dry

Once all excess water is removed, lay the rug out to dry, rotating once to make sure the front and back both dry fully. Do not replace the carpet until it has dried completely.

7. Gently Brush Out Fibers

Once after a rug dries the fibers are left stiff and feeling different than they were before. If the fibers of your rug feel stiff, you can brush them out with a soft brush or vacuum it to loosen them again. Over time, the fibers will loosen (and soften) right up.

Once you’ve completed all these steps, return your rug to the appropriate room and enjoy how clean and vibrant it looks and feels again!
